WELCOME TO FROM FILM TO TABLE!

For the past twenty years, I’ve spent much of my life behind a camera. But when I wasn’t shooting, you could often find me in the kitchen baking.

I’ve always been inspired by food — the way it looks, the way it brings people together, and especially the way a smell or a taste can take you right back to a particular place and time.

Some of my earliest memories are in my grandma’s kitchen. She was always baking, and I can still remember the smell of huge bowls of dough rising for bread and cinnamon rolls. At 3 o’clock, there was coffee and a cookie pulled from an old ice cream container she kept on top of the refrigerator.

All these years later, coffee and a cookie at 3 is still part of my life.

Maybe that’s why food has always felt like more than food to me.

Think about almost any family gathering and there’s a table somewhere in the memory. There’s something being passed around, something someone always makes, a recipe written in handwriting you recognize, or a smell you’d know anywhere.

Over the years, I found myself wanting to spend more and more time in the culinary world. Naturally, as a photographer, I loved photographing food — but eventually I realized something was missing.

I wanted to be the one making it, too.

I wanted to test the recipe, make the dough, create the scene, style it, photograph it and tell the story around it. I love the entire process — from flour scattered across the counter to that moment when the golden light hits a loaf of bread just right.

Minus the dishes. I could live without those.

Why From Film to Table?

I started my career shooting film, and returning to it has reminded me of what I love most about photography. Film isn’t perfect. It’s unpredictable and a little imperfect, and sometimes the photograph you didn’t plan becomes the one that feels the most like art.

From Film to Table is a place where my life as a photographer meets my love of baking.

Here you’ll find new recipes alongside old ones, recipes from my Gram’s kitchen, photographs made on film, seasonal baking, and eventually food stories about other people, places and traditions that inspire me.

I want this to be a space where you can come for a recipe but leave wanting to make something — whether that’s a loaf of bread, a photograph, a pie from your grandmother’s recipe box, or simply a beautiful afternoon around the table.

And, most importantly, you’ll find Larry.

My yellow Lab is my constant kitchen assistant, unofficial sous chef and CEO of Larry’s Baking Co., the small bakery I’m building alongside From Film to Table. Larry’s will be a cheerful, cookie-forward bakery with plenty of other things I love to bake mixed in — cinnamon rolls, sourdough focaccia and whatever else happens to come out of the kitchen.

There will be flour on the counter. Recipes that need another test. Film that doesn’t turn out exactly as expected. Probably a dog waiting for something to hit the floor.

And I think that’s the point.

Life shouldn’t be perfect. It should be art.

Welcome to From Film to Table. I’m so glad you’re here.
